Sir Michael Scholar appointed Chair of new Statistics Board - 26 July 2007

The Statistics Commission warmly congratulates Sir Michael Scholar on his appointment as Chair of the Statistics Board.  As well as manifestly being an individual of the highest calibre, his wide experience in government and business will be of immense value to the new Board as it develops a dialogue with the many organisations and interests associated with the world of official statistics.  The confidence of Parliament, government departments, the devolved administrations, the news media and, of course, other users of statistics will be central to the success of the Board.  We offer Sir Michael our support in addressing the many issues that the shadow Board will face in its first few months and look forward to the opportunity to discuss these matters with him.
